| The Union's Mandate |
| What we do, and how we can help each other to do it. |
World Fathers Union has a dual mandate:
The first part of our mandate necessarily embarks
upon a long road, one no less arduous than that followed
by any group struggling for freedom from bias and
inequitable treatment. Under this chapter, we must
act in many spheres: working with the world press
to rescue fathers from the rôle of the ideal
villain in which they have been cast; working with
government leaders to guide and inform them of the
reality they need to address if our society is to
be preserved; working with father's groups everywhere
to create a true, world-wide union of fathers strong
enough to make its voice heard and heeded in the halls
of power.
Yet all of this offers little solace to fathers and children who are in distress right now. Sadly, there are always too many of them, because our family court systems encourage conflict instead of searching for just and equitable solutions. Hence our second mandate, which directs us to reach out in crisis situations where fathers despair and children weep and lives are destroyed. We do this one-on-one for any father who writes to the Union for help; and we do this globally by constantly searching for and disseminating information which can aid fathers in their struggle to save their children. Both the Union's News Page and the new Fathers In Crisis pages address this need.
We also conduct statistical research studies of entire family court systems and the individual judges' custody decision records from them. This enables us to identify and expose particularly biased judges to public scrutiny. If anecdotal evidence from fathers or reputable attorneys indicates that a particular judge is a real problem--much worse than even the 'ordinarily biased' family court judges which are the bane of fathers and children alike--we open a file on that judge and we undertake a statistical survey to ascertain how the record matches the stories. We then release the results to the press and forward them to the appropriate government ministers.
