A handful of protesters returned yesterday to the Minster, where the group tried to storm a service in July 2004, resulting in 14 arrests. This time they were heavily outnumbered, by more than 20 police officers, who watched and filmed demonstrators, who were dressed in clerical robes, with banners featuring Archbishop of York John Sentamu. The group, which campaigns for divorced and separated fathers to have more access to their children, claims the Archbishop has failed to raise the issue of fathers' rights and family breakdown, which he discussed with F4J founder Matt O'Connor in December 2005. Spokesman for the Archbishop Arun Arora said F4J was "pushing at an open door" in calling for Dr Sentamu's support for fathers and called their attack on him "unprovoked, bewildering and ill-thought through". |
